This page applies to both Unstukk guides: The ADHD Trap Map and What to do if your beloved has ADHD. It repeats the "Copyright and Important Information" pages printed in each guide.

In plain words

  • The guides are for learning and reflection. They are not medical, psychological, relationship or other professional advice.
  • They cannot diagnose ADHD in you or anyone else, and they do not replace a doctor, therapist, counsellor or other qualified professional.
  • Do not start, stop or change any medication or treatment, or encourage someone else to, because of a guide. Talk to a doctor or prescriber first.
  • If you or someone else is in danger, in crisis or feels unsafe, contact your local emergency number or a helpline now (see Safety and support below).

For learning, reflection and practical support

The guides are created for learning, reflection and practical support. They are not a replacement for professional medical advice or treatment. Everyone's ADHD journey is different, so take what helps you and adapt it to your own situation.

The content is general information based on the author's reading of books and research, talks, expert opinions and experiences shared by people living with ADHD and those close to them. It is provided for educational purposes only. Reading or using it does not create a doctor–patient, therapist–client or any other professional relationship.

Not a diagnosis

The guides describe common patterns and ADHD in general terms. Recognising some of these patterns in yourself or someone you know does not mean that either of you has ADHD, and not recognising them does not mean you do not. Only a qualified healthcare professional can assess or diagnose ADHD or any other condition.

Medication and treatment

Nothing in the guides is a recommendation to start, stop, change or avoid any medication, therapy or treatment. The overview of how ADHD care often works is not a treatment plan. Decisions about treatment should always be made with a qualified professional.

Your choices and responsibility

The strategies, examples and suggested responses are general suggestions and may not suit everyone, or every relationship. You decide whether and how to use them, taking into account your own health, circumstances and any professional advice you have received, and you remain responsible for your own decisions. The guides are not a substitute for couples, family or individual counselling. If anything in them makes you feel worse, stop and talk to a professional.

Safety and support

ADHD often occurs alongside other conditions, such as anxiety or depression. If you are struggling, please speak to your GP, doctor or a mental health professional.

Understanding ADHD never means accepting abuse, threats or behaviour that makes you feel unsafe.

  • In an emergency, or if you are thinking about harming yourself, call your local emergency number straight away (for example 999 in the UK, 911 in the US).
  • Samaritans (UK and Ireland): free on 116 123.
  • US: call or text 988.
  • National Domestic Abuse Helpline (UK): free on 0808 2000 247.
  • National Domestic Violence Hotline (US): 1-800-799-7233.

No guarantees

We take reasonable care with the guides, but they are provided "as is". We make no promises that they are complete, accurate, up to date or suitable for your situation, and research about ADHD continues to develop. Results differ from person to person, and no particular outcome is guaranteed.
